Vision 2015

VISION 2015

On September 27, 2009, members of the St. Luke community gathered at a Community Planning Event to express and prioritize "dreams ans aspirations" for our parish. This gathering, led to the formation of ten task forces, made up of volunteers from our community. These teams worked to refine our priortized dreams, and determine the steps required to make them realities.

Vision 2015 Updates

Community Building:

Point 2- "Promote additional community building gatherings - Create a Social Events Committee to plan family-friendly and adult social events that will build community."  In 2010 a Social Events Committee was created and we had our first Spring-Fest, a Cultural Heritage Festival. It was a very successful event with a wide variety of Nationalities represented.

Facilities:

Facilities action item; "Upgrading parking lot lighting to increase visibility and improve safety." Status: In process. A decision was made to use this year's Annual Catholic Appeal rebate to fund the lighting project for the parking lot. A scope of work is currently being developed. Expect to solicit bids for the project within the next 6-8 weeks and commencement of the project shortly thereafter.

Youth Ministry:

Goal number 5 under "Youth Ministry" is as follows: "Establish a weekly Youth Night that includes a Youth Mass open to all youth." Last fall, with the assistance of an interim youth minister and many volunteers, youth ministry hosted a Youth Mass which took place on Sunday evening and was followed by a Youth Night where youth would share fellowship and discuss the scripture readings. With the creation of a Youth Advisory Board this past spring, the board, the new youth minister, and Fr. Bob came to the conclusion that the Youth Mass was not well enough attended or supported by the youth of our nparish. The Youth Mass was discontinued and our Advisory Board worked with our Youth Minister in laying the foundation within the ministry in hopes to instill desire in our youth to become active in our youth community and our parish. This has included weekly junior high and high school youth nights, building a young-adult leadership team, and creating outreach programs that strive to build relationshps with youth. We are begining to see much growth within our ministry because of these vital steps.

Communications:

Under the "Communications" goals for our five-year plan, goal number two was this: Utilize the official St. Luke logos for all communications." Both our parish and school have new logos that are the same design, but with different colors and vision statements within the logos. For the school, the vision statement on the logo is in Latin - Formitas Catholictus Ductatus, which means, "Forming Catholic Leaders." For the parish logo, our vision statement on the logo is "Abiding in Faith, Hope and Love." New stationary has been printed for both the school and parish and both logos are being used in a variety of printed material as well as usage on our parish and school websites.

Faith Formation:

Goal Number One under “Faith Formation” in our parish five-year plan is as follows: “Establish a Faith Formation Commission.”  This commission was convened in January, 2011.  It is chaired by Pam Sipos, and the staff liaison is Sarah Swaner, our Faith Formation Director.  Responding to expressed needs from within the parish, it has accomplished the following to date: Scripture studies have been held, including one with childcare, and one continuing presently under the leadership of Kathy Alloway.  A contemplative prayer experience is led on Wednesdays by Dennis Sipos.  The “Wine and Wisdom Book Club,” led by Pam Sipos, provides an opportunity for discussion, fellowship, and adult faith formation.  Our “Faith at Home” bulletin insert by Tanya Higgins can be found on the back of the monthly calendar insert each month.  The first of the commission’s Task Forces has been convened and is working hard on revitalizing our Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministry.  Finally, a timeline for quality evaluation of programs has been produced for the purpose of providing focus and enrichment to faith formation programs here at St. Luke Parish.

Facilities Action Item:

Construct a "cry room" and a changing/nursing facility in the church.
We tried an experiment to see the effects of placing a room at the southwest back corner of the church. This was done by erecting a piece of plywood from the floor to ceiling with a slight slant. This created a type of "sound board" to see how the acoustics would be affected. This semi-permanent wall was up for one weekend. The results negatively impacted the church acoustics. The sound was muffled and the spoken and sung words could not be heard or understood. A decision was made to not proceed with the construction of the cry room. It decided to postpone the installation of the crying room for a future date.
