Stained Glass
We plan to install a 20-foot-wide span of stained glass on the west side of the church where the
current main entrance exists. This entrance will no longer be needed when the new vestibule is built and offers an
opportunity to add a beautiful new feature to our church.
We are building a new 1,000-square-foot vestibule to provide much needed “transitional space” as parishioners enter from the outside into our main worship space. It will also provide a gathering space, protected from the elements, where parishioners can visit with one another as they arrive for and leave Mass. It will also modify how parishioners enter our church, bringing most in through the back of the worship space rather than into the middle, as
is now the case. The new vestibule will improve the functionality of our church and help to build community.
With construction of a vestibule, we are also planning an outdoor “plaza”, which will provide a beautiful and welcoming entrance to our church and a much-needed buffer between our worship space and parking area. It will also provide an outdoor gathering space for parishioners coming into or exiting Mass. It will be constructed adjacent to the new narthex and include a semi-circular concrete terrace surrounded by grass and plantings.
The total (updated) cost of the project is $3.2 million, of which we hope to raise $2.7 million. St. Luke is delighted to report that the campaign has been an extraordinary success to date. We raised $2,100,000 from just our first 36 gifts! We are deeply humbled and gratified by the overwhelmingly generous support of our parish. Indeed, those who have participated were excited to play a part in this extraordinary effort. We thank them! As we move into 2022, we plan to reach out to the rest of our parish community to request its support.
The balance will be funded by the rebate we received from the Archdiocese’s “Called to Serve as Christ” campaign. Our plan is to begin work on the church interior and vestibule in mid- to late-February. This will require us to vacate the church for about five months, during which time we will celebrate Mass in our gymnasium. We believe it makes sense to do the work now before Mass attendance reaches capacity following the pandemic. Our timetable to complete the entire project (church interior, new vestibule and plaza) and return to our church is mid-October.
