The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” “The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch” (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1324).
2nd Grade is the customary age at which a child may be prepared for First Communion, whether they are at Saint Luke school or not. Preparation for First Communion will begin in late September. Registration is due by September 13th!
Children in 3rd Grade and above, may still be prepared for Baptism or First Eucharist, and will do in a separate program from the 2nd Graders, often called RCIC “Rite of Christian initiation of Children.” This RCIC program is for children (or youth) who are 3rd grade or above who have not been baptized, or have been baptized but have yet to receive First Eucharist. Children are only ordinarily eligible for this program if at least one parent or legal guardian is a Baptized Catholic. Please contact Alex Nelson to get enrolled, or for more information.
