This is a wonderful, rewarding opportunity for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to serve the St. Luke Community in Shoreline, earn service hours, and gain experiences that will help them grow in their faith journey. JUNIORS are open to students from St. Luke School, home-schooled, and area public schools.
St. Vincent de Paul Advisors: Julia Fiene Bowman, Tanya Higgins, Erin Schmidt
St. Vincent de Paul Support: Council President, Leigh Goodrich
The St. Vincent de Paul JUNIORS, over the years, have thrived when they are given service opportunities! Each year, we plan activities according to the students' interests, some of which have been:
Mission: Our call to care for others; to love our neighbor.
- The St. Vincent de Paul Society is unique, instead of those in need going to a location to receive assistance, the Adult Vincentians go out. Two-by-two, St. Vincentians go out to those in need visiting them where they live.
- St Vincent de Paul JUNIORS started with the interest of a seventh grade student who wanted to learn more about St. Vincent de Paul. His intrigue expanded from a mere writing assignment in Mrs. Fargo’s St. Luke School seventh grade class, to attending a St. Luke St. Vincent de Paul’s Conference meeting and then visiting the Georgetown Food Bank with the conference president. The JUNIORS program started the following fall in 2017, comprised of six 6-8th grade students and two adult advisors. This group was and remains the first of its kind in the Pacific Northwest and has grown to over 33 students with 32 accompanying parents and guardians this past year.
